<p>The time has come for you to purchase a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_ss_c_2_16%26field-keywords%3Dbackyard%2520storage%2520sheds%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Dgarden%26sprefix%3Dbackyard%2520storage&#038;tag=outdoorlover-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957"><strong>backyard storage unit</strong></a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&#038;l=ur2&#038;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />. You are running out of room and need that extra space for storage. Where do you begin? Before seeking out the best storage unit for your backyard you will need to carefully plan the need for the unit. You will also have to take into consideration the size that you need.  Will this storage be for storage only or will it need to be a workshop as well.  If a workshop is needed you can find storage units with storage on one side and the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002X6MPSO?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=outdoorlover-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957&#038;creativeASIN=B002X6MPSO">Workshop</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=B002X6MPSO" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> situated on the next.</p>
<p>What will be the use of the storage?  You can place many items in your storage unit such as gardening tools, tools, bikes, outdoor furniture, firewood, lawn and garden tools. There are many things that the storage unit can be used for. It is up to you to make that decision of the proper use for your unit.  If you have children you can make the storage system a playhouse for the children or a storage unit for their toys.  Storage units are sometimes used for an office or room where you can just get away.</p>
<p>The storage unit can be purchased or it can be constructed. Decide on your options to entering the storage unit. You will need to make a decision of whether or not to have only one door or two. You can also have windows installed on your unit. You will also need to consult with the city officials where you reside. Some places have restrictions on the construction or the placement of the storage units. You may also want to investigate restrictions when it comes to installing utilities. You may want electricity and even a telephone installed inside of your storage unit.  The cost of doing this may be very high.</p>
<p>When seeking out a building you will need to take into consideration that your items will be protected from inclement weather as well as pest.  The storage units give you easy access to your stored belongings such as tools, toys, bikes, equipment and supplies. This is definitely a way to keep your yard and home neat. You will want to have the shed placed where it is convenient to your home to make it easier to get to and from.</p>
<div style="float: right; margin: 15px;"><a href="http://affiliates.bettymills.com/z/1462386/CD706/083110b"><img src="http://www.bettymills.com/store/images/product/ARRSENTRY_N.jpg" border="0" alt="Arrow Sentry storage shed" /></a></div>
<p>You can invest in the<a title="metal storage unit" href="http://affiliates.bettymills.com/z/1462400/CD706/083110c"> metal storage unit</a> or the<a title="wooden storage unit" href="http://www.outdoorsstoragesheds.com/wood-sheds.html"> wooden storage unit</a>.  The metal storage units are constructed from aluminum, galvanized steel and corrugated steel. The metal based storage units should be placed on concrete. The unit needs to be secure using bolts. This will need to be done in order to the potential damage that may arise if not secured properly.  The wooden units look great, but they have a disadvantage to them as well. The wood tends to rot or split. There is wood varnish on the market that will help you to tackle this issue. Another form of wood is cedar which is a bit more expensive.</p>
<p>Whichever designs of storage unit you invest in remember that that this is an investment that produces a simple backyard storage solution for many years to come.</p>

<p>There are many different kinds of outdoor storage benches to choose from. Generally they come in kit form, unpainted, so you can finish them exactly the way you'd like to. As for price, they tend to range between $100 and $150. You could buy your own materials, of course, but it's nice if you get most of your materials from a kit.</p>
<p>If you search on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_noss%26fsc%3D7%26ih%3D5_0_2_0_1_0_0_0_0_1.108_86%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3Doutdoor%2520storage%2520bench%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957">Amazon</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />, you can see some if you just type 'outdoor storage bench'.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EFFS5I?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B000EFFS5I">Suncast PB6700 Patio Bench</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B000EFFS5I" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> goes for between $105 and $115.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006GN9U6?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0006GN9U6">Rubbermaid</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0006GN9U6" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> might be the way to go. It's got a stylish plastic version, called their Rubbermaid Patio Storage Bench, Dark Platinum #3764. It goes for $130.61 and looks nice with a sunburst design on the back instead of some ugly design. It only takes about four minutes to put up.</p>
<p>Suncast makes a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_noss%26fsc%3D6%26ih%3D5_8_1_1_0_1_0_0_0_1.12_142%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3Dsuncast%2520deck%2520box%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Dgarden&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957">simple deck box</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> that can also double as a simple bench. Customers love it and give it great reviews. Suncast also makes their <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00013BUW8?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B00013BUW8">Suncast SS1000 Storage Seat</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B00013BUW8" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />, which is smaller and very inexpensive.</p>
<div style="float: right; margin: 15px;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Y0DZCQ?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B000Y0DZCQ"><img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41LHG9WnczL._SL500_AA300_.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B000Y0DZCQ" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /></div>
<p>The moral of the story is, always go to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_ss_i_9_13%26fsc%3D-1%26ih%3D9_2_0_0_0_0_0_0_0_1.109_495%26field-keywords%3Dstorage%2520bench%2520outdoor%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps%26sprefix%3DStorage%2520Bench&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957">Amazon</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />, even if Amazon isn't the place you're going to purchase your things and look at their reviews (if they carry the model that you're looking for, of course).</p>
<p>The <a title="Lutyen storage bench" href="http://www.betterbackyards.com/5-Lutyen-Bench-p-32.html">Lutyen Storage Bench</a> doesn't look like a bench that you'd ever want to put outdoors: it's gorgeous! This bench is as comfortable as it is beautiful with its high back and rounded arms!</p>
<p>As you can see, there are lots of options for excellent outdoor storage solutions, even if you don't have room for a shed. A nice, roomy, storage bench will go a long way.</p>

<p>No matter how big your house is, you always need backyard more storage. Have you ever in your life lived in a house that had enough storage space? I know that I haven't. So, how does one store all their accumulated stuff?</p>
<p>One way to store items you can't yet part with is a <a href="http://www.outdoorsstoragesheds.com/links/links.php?lid=7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >storage shed</a>. Sheds are called various different things, depending upon slight differences between their sizes. A <strong><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D18%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26fsc%3D-1%26ih%3D1%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F1.370%5F48%26y%3D17%26field-keywords%3DRed%2520Barn%2520Shed%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Dtools&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957">Storage Barn</a></strong><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> looks like a little barn with an angled roof and the typical barn door with the X across it. A Storage Building is like a <a href="http://www.outdoorsstoragesheds.com/links/links.php?lid=7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >storage shed</a>, but it's longer. Sometimes it has cupolas on the roof to make it look more like a house, and tends to have more windows. It also costs twice as much. A <a href="http://www.outdoorsstoragesheds.com/links/links.php?lid=7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >Storage Shed</a> is simple. At its simplest, it's a box with a slanted roof.</p>
<p>They can be made out of different materials, such as fiberboard, aluminum, DuraTemp. They can have vinyl siding, or be made of cedar. They can be made out of Knotty pine, or be made to look like Swiss houses. They might be made of logs like a log cabin, or be made to look like a single or even double-story house.</p>
<p>You can pay $10,000 for it, or you can pay $500.</p>
<p>However, be careful, there's always that level that is reached where your local zoning ordinance will call it a building instead of a shed. People have gotten into problems before by just building a fancy tree house.</p>
<p>Realize that you might have to have an inspector come over and check out the shed after you're done. If you didn't check first, but you installed electricity into the shed... you might be either removing it, or paying a fine. If you make a permanent foundation for the unit, thinking that it will certainly keep out mice now... you might have put it in the wrong place. It's hard to move a poured foundation, so check before you pour it to see if there are any regulations forcing it to be a certain distance away from the property line.</p>
<p>When you're considering different kinds of backyard storage solutions, generally the most boring is also the safest. Why? Well, they made it generic enough to conform to all regulations.</p>

Remembering that you want your <a href="http://www.outdoorsstoragesheds.com/links/links.php?lid=7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >storage shed</a> to be easy to build, it'll be best if you can just cut a rectangular hole in the plywood, inset the window, and affix screws that you can drill in with a drill and bit (using sealant around the edge to make sure that it doesn't leak).</p>
<p>I've found them on http://www.ebay.com before for $46. They have some interesting shapes, even ones which have rounded tops, so your storage shed doesn't have to look ugly like most of them do if they're just rectangles with no windows. The frames are generally made from aluminum, and they can be just as easily used in tree houses or playhouses as they could be used in a storage shed. After all, a tree house is just basically a storage shed in the sky.</p>
<p>The one that I saw had a outside dimension of 15 1/2" x 22 1/2" and a cut-hole size of 14 1/2" x 21 3/4". They tend to have a white frame, but they also come in brown or with a J-channel mount.</p>
<p>You can also find crank-out windows in case you want good ventilation, or if you're actually building either a <a href="http://affiliates.bettymills.com/z/1465055/CD706/081310a">play house</a>, tree house, or lawn house. There's no reason at all that you couldn't make a fun tree house as well as a storage shed once you see how much fun it is. The kids will love you for it. They need a place which they can call their own.</p>
<p>Generally those windows are attached using #8 x 1" <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D6%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26fsc%3D-1%26ih%3D1%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F1.402%5F45%26y%3D26%26field-keywords%3Dpan-head%2520screws%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&amp;tag=outdoorlover-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957">pan-head screws</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" />.</p>
<p><a href="../shed-windows.html"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Storage shed windows</span></a> don't have to be dull, either. There are plans out there for a Colonial-style Storage Shed. This would make a nice little project. They say that you'd be spending between $1600 and $2000 for the shed once it's done, which seems very reasonable considering that it's actually two rooms. One is a 4 x 10 foot storage area and the other is a 10 x 12 ft. children's playroom.</p>
<p>http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/improvement/1276231</p>
<p>They give you a sixteen-step process, with photos, which will really help if you're going to make this shed. They first show you could make the floor, building it on top some cement blocks, laying cross beams, nailing plywood on top of the floor. They have an option to 'see all sixteen steps' which is handy. If you're going to build your own shed, you can see that there are many different ways you could build the shed.</p>
<p>Always make sure that you follow all rules applicable in your area about building a shed. That would be a shame if you were to build a shed, only to find that the neighborhood association doesn’t allow them. Note how just the difference of the use of interesting roofing materials changes the whole mood of the thing from it being boring, to it being interesting. Here you can see the kind of windows they put into their shed. They don’t have to be very fancy to look nice.</p>
<p>You should study many different plans before you finalize your own shed. If you don't understand part of the process before you begin, you might end up having problems later down the road. If you're looking for interesting storage shed windows, consider the overall feel of the shed once you're done.</p>

<p>Once you've got your four walls erected and your foundation laid, you'll need a roof for <a href="http://www.outdoorsstoragesheds.com/links/links.php?lid=2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >your shed</a>. You start with one single roof beam. This supports that hold up the beam go on the ends, in the middle of each front or rear wall frame. Four end rafters will slope down from that roof beam to the edge of each corner. This creates the angle of the roof.</p>
<p>In-between each of those four rafters you'll need to equally-space more rafters. Each will be cut at the same angle as the angle that the front and back rafters make to the beam. (If this part sounds daunting, then realize that you can also purchase prefabricated trusses as long as you made the size be a typical size and you did your measurements correct).</p>
<p>More cross-wise noggings are employed to brace the whole roof; and then plywood sheathing boards will cover the roof frame. Once you're reached this step of the process you can worry less about how weather will destroy or warp your structure.</p>
<p>The roof will then be completed with such things as more lumber members, an underlay of fascia and the roofing material that you've chosen to keep the rain out. Again, check on-line for particulars. You'll have to ensure that no rain enters through he roof, or fungus will form.</p>
<p>Here is where you install the shed doors and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D9%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26fsc%3D-1%26ih%3D2%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F1.575%5F135%26y%3D20%26field-keywords%3Dshed%2520windows%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&#038;tag=outdoorlover-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957">shed windows</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&#038;l=ur2&#038;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> in the spaces that you left for them in the walls. Look on-line for details on how you properly install windows and doors between rafters. Make sure that you have determined exact sizes for your doors and windows, verifying with the store that they carry those particular sizes.</p>
<p>To install the doors and windows you will need to use little wedges which will center the windows between the joists. Place a slanted windowsill, slanting outwards, so that the rain will run off instead of come back into the structure.</p>
<p>To be safe, you can always caulk every crack with <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D8%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26fsc%3D-1%26ih%3D1%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F1%5F1.467%5F62%26y%3D14%26field-keywords%3Dlatex%2520caulking%2520compound%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&#038;tag=onlinejourney-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957">latex caulking compound</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=onlinejourney-20&#038;l=ur2&#038;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> at any point where you fear that rain might come in, and you're done. The true test will be when you have your first downpour. Remember that you should pick a spot that is not at the lowest area of your property. It should be on higher-ground and the slope should draw rainwater away from the <a href="http://www.outdoorsstoragesheds.com/links/links.php?lid=7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" >storage shed</a>. If you have built it on skids instead of on a firm concrete foundation it will be easier to move.</p>
<p>If you're wanting to know how to build a shed roof, that's basically it. You might put a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26fsc%3D5%26ih%3D5%5F1%5F0%5F0%5F1%5F0%5F1%5F1%5F0%5F1.88%5F190%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3Droof%2520vent%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&#038;tag=outdoorlover-20&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957">vent in the roof</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=outdoorlover-20&#038;l=ur2&#038;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> that has it's own built-in fan that turns when the wind blows. This will keep the structure from being outrageously hot during the summer months. If you expect that you might get buildups of hot air in the roof, under the front and back overhang you might put tiny louvered vents.</p>
<p>If you don't live in an area which has snow, you might consider just having a flat roof. Such places as Arizona and Southern Texas don't need a pitched roof; but if you live in New York State, you'll have severe problems if you don't. And, that's how to build a shed roof.</p>
