Tips for Going to the Horse Auctions
Are you thinking about buying a horse? Horse auctions are a great way to find the perfect one. But you want to make certain that you choose just the right horse. You also want to make sure the deal is legitimate and that you're getting what you truly need. Here are some good tips to get you started.
- Don't buy an untrained horse. Often times, people will do this because it's cheaper. A lot of times, beginners will make this mistake and trained and experienced horse buyers and sellers will tell you not to do this. Horses can be very dangerous if they haven't been trained well.
- Don't ignore the older horses. Many people tend to avoid older horses at horse auctions, but there really is no need to pass them up. If anything, an older horse can be an excellent first horse for the beginner or inexperienced rider.
- 'Try before you buy', if you can; don't be afraid to ask. Most dealers want to know that their horses are going to good homes. You will likely get a better horse if you ask to try things out with the horse before you buy it. You will be able to gauge the horse's temperament and demeanor as well.
- You want to be sure the registration papers match the horse. It's an important step, but many people neglect it. While normally, there are mostly honest and trustworthy dealers there, you can get a bad one here and there. Check those papers.
It can be difficult to find the horse that is perfect for you at horse auctions. There are lots of good horses out there, but the above tips will help you find the one you love. Good luck!
