Collectibles Primer
There are as many kinds of collectibles as there are kinds of people. One of the most popular collectibles there is relates to soft drinks. These collectibles range from things created when the beverages were first formulated to more recent limited bottles or cans and even promotional items. Some collectors also specialize in soda machines as well.
Bottles are one of the most popular collectibles. They don't take up much room, and they come in a wide range of styles and prices. Bottles that have not been empty are more popular, and will command a higher price.
Some fans of soda related collectibles specialize in a single brand and there are many Pepsi fans. This drink was created by Caleb Bradham, a North Carolina druggist, in 1893 and originally was called "Brad's Drink." The familiar name was applied five years later. Old and rare bottles are prized but some very recent special editions bring good prices as well, such as an "Elvis" commemorative bottle only a few years old.
Containers that are representative of a style change are of particular worth to collectors, no return bottles and the first cans being examples. Logo changes such as shape, label, or colors are also of particular interest. Several people collect the wood cases that bottles used to be stored in or the cardboard six pack holders with intricate designs on them.
Signs are also popular as collectibles. They range from wood or metal signs meant to be displayed outside, to inside display signs of an array of sizes, shapes, and designs. Sometimes even murals are removed from walls and are sold as collectibles. Lighting or clocks may also be included in the sign. The functionality of these makes them popular. The condition the item is in is a big portion of determining value, so signs made of wood which were put indoors for storage prior to much damage from weather make treasured collectibles.
There are collectors who specialize in Pepsi vending machines. A wide variety of different machines are on the market ranging from unsophisticated metal boxes which held ice and bottles up to higher tech modern machines. The most prized of the old vending machines are the ones which are still in working condition. These machines can range in price from under $100 for simple machines to thousands for machines that are especially rare.
There is virtually no limit on the collectibles available, from porcelain through to sporting memorabilia. Soft drink companies manufacture limited edition merchandise and this can be easily sourced from online shops which specialize in such memorabilia, or through online auctions. Trays and glasses are popular to collect, and will not blow the budget. You will find a soft drink-related version of almost any item imaginable, with items to appeal to all tastes and budgets.
