Wakeboarding Tricks - How To Understand The Terminology

by Jessica P

Are you a beginner wakeboarder, or are you maybe thinking about getting started? Naturally you'll want and need to talk to people who already know their stuff with a wakeboard, but at the same time, you don't want to sound like a dork! Here are some of the most basic wakeboarding tricks terms to get you started learning.

Air - This is one of the most important wakeboarding terms. When we talk about 'air', we're just saying how much air you got between yourself and the water. So if someone tells you that you had 'big air', don't worry, that's a good thing. It means you went high!

Bail - Something you don't want to do: Fall off your wakeboard.

Bindings - This is how you stay on your board: You put on these rubber boots attached to the board.

Bone Out - Whenever you perform a trick that involves straightening out your leg, this is what it's called. When you 'bone out grab,' you straighten your leg while you are grabbing.

Digger - This is something you want to avoid, as it means a 'bad wreck.'

Invert - This means that the rider has flipped upside down in the air!

Nose - The tip of the board that's closest to the wakeboarding boat is the nose.

Set - When you take turns on the wakeboard with other riders, each turn is called a 'set'. Set is just another way of saying 'turn' here.

That's not all the wakeboarding terms there are, but these are the very basics to get you started. Now when you try to talk to somebody who's already a pro at wakeboarding, you at least should have less communication problems! You might be a 'newbie,' but you don't want to sound like one!

Wakeboarding is one of the most fun sports in the world. Use this lingo for wakeboarding tricks and terms to help you learn. Have fun, but don't break a leg!
