How to Organize a Disorganized Storage Shed
You have just bought a new storage shed and now you need to organize it. The problem? You are anything but an organized person! Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to make the process of organization much simpler. Let’s take a look at some tips that can help you have your shed organized in no time.
If your shed is new, you are already one step ahead because you don’t have to remove anything from it. If, however, you are looking to revamp an old shed, your first step is to take everything out of your shed so that you can start the organization process from scratch.
Once you have everything removed from your storage shed, sort through everything and try to throw out anything you don’t need. For many of us, storage sheds become garbage cans, storing things that we collect over the years but will never use. Try to avoid this. The first step to having an organized shed is to store as little as possible.
Once you have decided what will be going into your shed, you need to sort it. Begin by listing all of your items on paper. Then, decide which items you will want to hang, which items will go on shelves, and which items will sit on the floor. Try to balance where items are kept as much as possible. The more items you have on the floor, the more cluttered your shed will look, so try to make use of hangers and shelves as much as possible.
Which items can go where? Ultimately, it is up to you. However, it is generally suggested that small things go on shelves and larger things stay on the ground. Paint cans, chemicals, and other small items fit perfectly onto shelves. Small tools, nails, and screws should be organized and stored in a tool box. Garden tools, such as shovels, are easily hung up. All other objects, such as hand saws and snow blowers, can be stored on the floor.
When organizing your storage shed, it would also be beneficial for you to sort and store objects in relevant categories. Keep all of your tools in one area, all of your gardening supplies in another, and all of your chemicals in yet another area. This will make things much simpler on you when you need to find something.
We do not all have great organizational skills. Keeping our storage sheds organized, however, can keep things looking neat and make it easier for us to find things when we need them. Fortunately, organizing your shed does not have to be as difficult it may seem. Begin by creating a list of all items that will go in your shed, decide which items will be placed on shelves, which will be hung, and which will be on the floor, and be sure to organize all items into specific categories. Follow these few simple steps and keep your shed looking great!
