No matter how big your house is, you always need backyard more storage. Have you ever in your life lived in a house that had enough storage space? I know that I haven't. So, how does one store all their accumulated stuff?
One way to store items you can't yet part with is a storage shed. Sheds are called various different things, depending upon slight differences between their sizes. A Storage Barn looks like a little barn with an angled roof and the typical barn door with the X across it. A Storage Building is like a storage shed, but it's longer. Sometimes it has cupolas on the roof to make it look more like a house, and tends to have more windows. It also costs twice as much. A Storage Shed is simple. At its simplest, it's a box with a slanted roof.
They can be made out of different materials, such as fiberboard, aluminum, DuraTemp. They can have vinyl siding, or be made of cedar. They can be made out of Knotty pine, or be made to look like Swiss houses. They might be made of logs like a log cabin, or be made to look like a single or even double-story house.
You can pay $10,000 for it, or you can pay $500.
However, be careful, there's always that level that is reached where your local zoning ordinance will call it a building instead of a shed. People have gotten into problems before by just building a fancy tree house.
Realize that you might have to have an inspector come over and check out the shed after you're done. If you didn't check first, but you installed electricity into the shed... you might be either removing it, or paying a fine. If you make a permanent foundation for the unit, thinking that it will certainly keep out mice now... you might have put it in the wrong place. It's hard to move a poured foundation, so check before you pour it to see if there are any regulations forcing it to be a certain distance away from the property line.
When you're considering different kinds of backyard storage solutions, generally the most boring is also the safest. Why? Well, they made it generic enough to conform to all regulations.
Backyard Storage Options for the Whole Family
When you're looking for someplace else to put all of your items and equipment, toys, lawn care supplies and more, consider a great backyard storage shed or storage system. A backyard storage shed can actually be used for the entire family if you organize it correctly.
First you need to get a good general idea of how much stuff you want to store here. This will help you determine what size storage shed to get. Which family members will be storing their stuff here? How much space inside the shed will each person need?
Maybe dad wants to store his Lawn Mower, weed eater
and other lawn tools. Mom wants to be able to keep tools and supplies for her flower garden. Your teenage child wants to keep their bike and scooter in the shed and the younger children want to store their outside toys
such as sand buckets and shovels or ride on toys
to protect them from the elements when not in use.
All of this can be done from the same shed and all it takes is a little bit of planning and organization. When you're sure the shed you've chosen has enough space, then consider separating parts of the shed into whose section belongs to whom.
Dad will need space for his items so that people are not tripping over them or causing damage to them but he also needs to be able to get his equipment in and out when the occasion calls for it without trouble. This is where careful layout will come into play.
Mom's items might be able to go on shelving where they are up off the ground but she can easily reach them whenever she wants them. Some great backyard shed shelf organizing will make this possible. For items that belong to younger children, you will want to keep them low and in easy access. Although you should never allow your young child to enter a storage shed alone as there are too many things that can be dangerous inside.
