Wooden Storage Buildings
Wooden storage buildings are like wooden storage sheds, only they're longer. They tend to be built to look more like a house, with little cupolas and planters under the windows. The "Columbia" is a 12 x 20 Wood Storage Building. It is created by "Handy Home Products". It's the leader in ready-to-assemble wooden storage kits. They come, all pre-cut and ready to go. That includes walls, roof panels, trip, assembled doors, hardware and instructions.
At around $3000, that's an incredible deal. It means that even if you're not a great carpenter, it'll look nice after it's done. You can put the extra time it would have taken you to plan such a structure and put that time into making it look nice.
Wooden storage buildings are almost good enough to live in. They've got a large amount of room, so would work well as a tool shop if you put some ventilation and air conditioning into the room. 12 x 20 feet is a very respectable size to use as a work area. In that case, you might wish to get storage shed windows which crank outwards. They have many different sizes to choose from, so you'd be able to find just the one that would work well for you.
The "Berkley" is a 10 x 16 Wood Storage Building, made by Handy Home Products. It is built to look like a little barn, with the kind of roof with four-angles common to such structures. It has four windows in the front (or at least two real windows and two possibly faux windows in the roof). It has pre-assembled doors, and all of the wood is pre-cut. That includes the wall and roof panels. The trip and hardware also comes with it; so it's very easy to put together. The price is $2400 without the floor and $2,960 with the floor kit.
There are step-by-step instructions for those who have never done such a shed before. You must check with your local code authority to make sure that you don't need special permits, or conform to certain ordinances or covenants before purchasing. The Neighborhood association or city/state municipality can give you any particular requirement that might be needed.
To put them together, all you need is a hammer, tape measure, screwdriver, step ladder and level.
It's all made of wood, so it will be able to hold up to a load of snow or wind. It has 2 x 4 framing and won't either rust, sag or dent. It comes with a factory primer coat and treated so that it resists fungus and wood insects such as carpenter ants and termites. There's a beautiful trim that can be painted a contrasting color and it's all pre-assembled with 5' 4" wide by 6' high double doors.
